BION

STACC supports the BION project in Kajiado County, southern Kenya, to relieve Maasai children from malaria and diarrhoeal disease.  The focus of the project is on distribution of insecticide-treated bednets; better nutrition; safe water; and improved personal hygiene education.  Read more about the project from the Director, Seleina Limion.

The ongoing programme of visiting children's homes with nourishing food and promoting good nutrition practices continues successfully.
BION is now actively addressing the issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a persistent global problem. Kenya has outlawed FGM but it remains a cultural norm in many areas. Following discussions with BION, STACC has funded specialized training for BION staff, organised with the support of the Qabale Foundation. Additionally, we have financed the first phase of work in Kajiado County, which has been positively received. This will require a continuing effort to change entrenched, long held societal attitudes, but is a vital step towards protecting young women and promoting lasting change.
